Rich with European heritage, Montevideo reflects in its architecture and attitude the varied culture of its early settlers, who came from Spain, Portugal and Italy.
A relaxing panoramic drive will show you the highlights of the city, including some of its historical landmarks -- the Plaza Independencia and the Palacio Legislativo. The latter boasts a place among the three most beautiful Parliament buildings in the world. Keep an eye out for the Battle y Ordoñez Park with its famous soccer stadiumand the Carrasco residential area.
Before heading out to the countryside, visit to the Mercado Agricola -- an old-but-renovated market hall that nowadays functions as a farmer's market. It offers a great insight in the culinary traditions of Uruguay and is also a chance to mingle with the locals.
Continue your journey to Varela Zarranz Winery. The Varela family has owned this winery since 1933. A member of the family will take you on a tour of the facility -- where you can also check out a few old carriages.
Then, relax and enjoy a wine tasting and lunch. The tasting will include Petit Grain Muscat,
Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé, Fusión Roble Blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat, Merlot), Tannat Reserva and María Zarranz Sparkling Extra Brut/Demi Sec.
Relax and enjoy the surroundings of this impressive winery as you are treated to a demonstration of the fiery and passionate Uruguayan Tango.
The panoramic city tour will take about three and a half hours. Time spent at Varela Zarranz is approximately three hours. Corkage policy: Wine purchased on this tour is exempt from the on-board corkage fee (offer limited to one bottle of wine per person).
