As you drive through downtown Coquimbo, you will pass the Plaza de Armas or main square.

At the La Herradura seaside resort, your guide will tell you legends of pirates and corsairs. Along the coast, you will see the old lighthouse that has become the symbol of La Serena.

Head down the lovely tree-lined Francisco de Aguirre Avenue and stop at the Archaeological Museum. This facility is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment, so you will visit only the sample hall, which houses a small collection of pre-colonial artifacts from this region. The hall itself is a very diminutive space, and the collection you will see is only a smattering of items, so your visit is just a token rather than an immersion experience.

A short walk from the museum brings you to the La Recova Market, where you will have some free time to browse among handicrafts, pottery, papaya products, semi-precious stones and alpaca wool handicrafts.

Your next stop is at the La Serena University campus. Enjoy a small taste of La Serena as you snack on delicious local specialties. Take in the panoramic view of the city and Coquimbo Bay before returning to the pier.
