A motorcoach transfer brings you to a modern train station, where you will board a fully refurbished steam train. The restoration project was inspired by a movement to recover Uruguay's cultural heritage and was completed with both private funding and public donations. Your 25-minute rail adventure is in the comfort of an air-conditioned rail car and recreates the nation's legendary tradition of rail travel. The route pass through the industrial section of Montevideo.

The ride ends at Peñarol Station -- inaugurated in 1891. This historic building has been recently refurbished and now boasts a wonderful museum where you can see railway equipment that was used in the early 20th century.

Back on the coach, you’ll continue through Montevideo on a panoramic drive. Stop at Prado Park, noted for its historical monuments and attractive gardens featuring a stunning display of roses. View the Legislative Palace -- a beautiful, ornate structure in marble -- and pass along the city's many beautiful beaches and the Rambla waterfront.

You'll also see Independence Plaza, surrounded by landmarks as the Government House and the historic Solis Theater en route back to the pier.

Tour operates subject to meeting a minimum number of participants. Minimum age is 1 year. The museum in Peñarol is very small -- only a few guests can step inside at any one time. Tour does not operate on Sundays.
