Travel by air-conditioned van or minibus and head past the Liliuokalani Gardens to Hilo's famous Rainbow Falls.

You're here to experience the land of frozen fire. Visit the island's vast interior nestled in the saddle between its two lofty peaks. See cooled lava from the most recent eruption as you ascend through spectacular scenery to almost 7,000 feet.

Your tour will stop at points of interest, including historical lava flows, so you can gain an insight into what is occurring with the most recent eruption. View the ever-changing vegetation as differing rainfall and elevation impact its growth. In Mauna Kea Regional Park, on either side of you, 14,000-foot mountains dominate the landscape. Your guide, trained in both the culture and geology of the island, imparts his/her fantastic knowledge of this dynamic area.

Back in Hilo, you will visit the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Farm before returning to the pier.

Wear comfortable walking shoes. Participants must negotiate stairs and/or uneven surfaces. Minimum age is 6 years; maximum age is 80 years. Different sites are available on different days due to lava flow road closures and changing conditions. Your route will include that most practical and interesting sites available on the day; alternative sites may be substituted. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Elevation is almost 7,000 feet.
