Approximately 4½ Hours
This adventure takes place on Costa Rica's Pacific Coast, along the Guacalillo Estuary and the Tarcoles River, located near Carara National Park.
The Guacalillo Estuary is noted for its mangrove forests. In fact, four different species of mangrove are found in this area -- a group of unrelated woody plants that grow in protected tropical coasts. The mangrove is also a great habitat for many endemic birds such as the mangrove cuckoo, mangrove hummingbirds, mangrove vireo, Panama flycatcher and many herons and egrets. This particular mangrove forest is one of the most important in the mid-Pacific Coast for the conservation of the scarlet macaw.
Enjoy a boat ride on board a comfortable open-sided boat, designed to bring you closer to nature. Crocodiles and iguanas are easily spotted. Admire the giant crocodiles in their natural habitat, while keeping an eye out for the several species of tropical birds in the wonderful world of the mangroves.
A delicious snack of fresh tropical fruits will be served along with water.
Travel time to the estuary is approximately one hour each way. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
