This all day land and sea combination allows you to experience both sides of the Big Island. It includes a narrated ground transfer across the island, as well as an exciting Zodiac ride along the rugged Kona coast. Bonuses include beautiful snorkeling and hopefully an opportunity to interact with Hawaiian spinner dolphins and view humpback whales (Dec-Apr) from the vantage point of a 16-passenger Zodiac rigid inflatable boat (RIB).
Travel from Hilo to Kona aboard an air-conditioned motor coach via the saddle road to the west side of the Big Island. The coach climbs the slopes of Mauna Kea Volcano for fantastic views of both Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa along the way.
In Kona, meet the captain of a high-powered 24-foot motorized Zodiac RIB. Hop aboard and set out in search of dolphins, turtles and whales (in season).
Pawai Bay is one of Hawaii's best snorkel spots from the Zodiac. After a brief orientation, you can climb into the warm water for fantastic views of colorful tropical fish and corals. Snorkel gear, a flotation vest and professional supervision are included.
Back in the raft, speed across the waves, exploring sea caves, lava tubes and blowholes along the rugged coastline.
Enjoy a deli-style lunch en route.
Return from Kona to Hilo via Waimea and paniolo (cowboy) country. Watch for Parker Ranch, located in Waimea. It was founded in 1847 and it is one of the oldest ranches in the United States. Encompassing thousands of acres across the island, Parker Ranch is also among the country's largest privately owned cattle ranches and is home to many a Hawaiian cowboy.
Continue along the gorgeous Hamakua coastline on the way back to Hilo.
