To get a feel for everyday life in Belém, visit the main cultural monuments of the city, including the Da Paz Theater -- considered to be one of the prettiest of Brazil. It is built in neo-Classical style and was opened in 1878. You will also see the Museum of Sacred Arts, formed by the architectural ensemble of the Church of Saint Alexander and the Episcopal Palace. It shelters fantastic works of religious art.

The Fortress Museum holds ceramic pieces that show the arrival of the European colonizers in the region during the 17th century.

The São José Liberto former jail is now a handicraft market, and the Jeweler Polo Gems Museum displays more than 4,000 pieces with diamonds, quartz, crystals and amethysts.
