Here's a rare chance to see stingrays being fed in the wild at Tatapouri Bay. This is a beautiful area 30 minutes north of Gisborne by road.

As you head out from the pier, you will pass Wainui Beach and travel along the Pacific Coast Highway to Tatapouri, where you will be warmly welcomed. Follow your guide to the nearby rocky reef shelf, where (s)he will attract the stingrays with food. You'll be amazed at the grace and gentleness of these wild stingrays and eagle rays.

Learn about the rich marine life in this area, which has been harvested by the local Maori people for many hundreds of years.

Later, while enjoying light refreshments, you will hear stories about the Maori people and why they settled along the coastline.

Tour operates weather and tide conditions permitting. For walking over the rocks, wear low-heeled, closed-toe footwear that you don't mind getting wet. Bring an additional pair of shoes in case your footwear gets wet. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Minimum age is 5 years.
