A minibus will transfer you from the pier to Sorrento's motor coach loading terminal. From there, the 1½-hour journey to Pompeii travels via the Sorrentine coast and skirts the Bay of Naples.
The amazing ancient Roman resort town of Pompeii was buried under a mass of volcanic ash from Mt Vesuvius when the mountain erupted in AD 79. Today's walking tour reveals the city's remarkably preserved villas, theaters and baths. Entering by way of the sea gate, you'll explore Pompeii with your guide. (S)he will point out plaster casts marking the positions of the fallen, who were swiftly overcome by noxious gases and ash. The highlights include stunning frescoes and inlaid mosaic floors.
After your tour, you'll visit a Sorrento woodcraft center. Guests who wish to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship. You may be required to stand during the minibus transfer from the pier. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
