Barcelona is large enough to offer a wealth of experiences but small enough for visitors to cover the main highlights in a few hours. A guided tour shows you around the Old Quarter, where Santa Eulalia's Cathedral is located. Built in the 13th century, it is the main Gothic church in the city.
A panoramic drive leads to the Passeig de Gracia -- the most elegant tree-lined boulevard in town with chic brand shops, banks, galleries, luxury hotels and restaurants. This avenue is home to some of the city's most renowned modernist buildings, including Casa Batlló and Casa Milà by Antoni Gaudí.
Your guide will point out the Sagrada Familia Church -- the most recognizable building in Barcelona.
Head to Montjuïc Hill, where the infrastructure built for Expo 1929 and for the 1992 Olympic Games remains in place. Stop at the Spanish village -- an architectural reproduction of more than 100 building styles from all over Spain. Transfer to the airport in time for your flight.
The cathedral is closed to groups on Saturday afternoons and Sundays -- your guide will offer an explanation outside the church; then, you can step inside to explore on your own. Modest attire is required for visiting churches or cathedrals; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered; shorts are not allowed. This option is available only to guests whose cruise ends in Barcelona, with flights at 3pm or later. It includes tour and a transfer to the airport for those not holding a prepaid transfer voucher; or, if you have already purchased an airport transfer with your cruise booking, you will receive a refund on board the ship as this excursion already includes a transfer.
