Approximately 3 Hours
Your island-style bus winds along the coastline past scenic bays, inlets and picturesque villages. You'll drive past the Flower Pot Rocks, known as Fatu-ma-Futi, and stop briefly for photos at the Leone Missionary Monument. Leone, once capital of American Samoa, is the site where the first missionaries landed in 1830.
Your next stop will be at a Samoan village. Proud of their heritage and customs, the Samoan people work hard to preserve them. They have managed to withstand a takeover of outside influences while adapting useful foreign ideas to their way of life.
The simple beauty of the island culture can be seen as you are treated to a traditional ava demonstration. This ceremony is usually performed when important guests, like you, visit the island. Enjoy authentic island entertainment, including Samoan songs and dances performed by a local cultural group.
Before heading back to the ship, you will also enjoy short stops at the Leala Sliding Rocks and the golf course.
On Sunday calls, the Ava ceremony will be held at a different village. The ceremony requires guests to sit on the floor; those with mobility limitations may encounter difficulties.
