Take this rare opportunity to visit one of the pioneering sheep-farming districts of New Zealand in the high country of this ruggedly beautiful region, where snow-capped mountains dominate the skyline.

From Picton, head through central Blenheim to cross the Wither Hills through rustic Taylor Pass. Your destination is the farmland and home of a third-generation farming family. You'll meet the family at their woolshed.

The main breed of sheep raised here is the hardy Merino, whose fine wool fetches the highest prices internationally. Watch a sheep shearing demonstration, and enjoy a refreshment of tea or coffee and a berry muffin while chatting to the family members about their farm and their lifestyle.

Heading into the high country, you'll stop at vantage points en route to take in the impressive views and photograph to Mt Tapuaenuku -- more than 9,000 feet tall.

Travel to the coastal end of the Awatere Valley, where you will be welcomed by the owners of Ugbrooke Country House -- a grand historic Marlborough homestead overlooking vineyards and the coast. Enjoy a talk about the house and tour of some of the rooms before lunch in the grand dining room.

Re-board the coach and travel through the town of Seddon, visiting Yealands Estate Winery. This may well be the most eco-friendly winery in the world and is easily one of the most impressive private wineries in New Zealand. Its magnificent setting features views of the Pacific Ocean and across to the North Island (weather permitting). Participate in a wine tasting session in the largest wine-growing area in New Zealand.

Return to Picton via the town of Blenheim -- Marlborough's largest commercial center.

To participate in the wine tasting portion of this tour you must be of legal age and accompanied by an adult, 21 or over. Corkage policy: Wine purchased on this tour is exempt from the on-board corkage fee (offer limited to one bottle of wine per person).
