Delight in bright blooming gardens, traditional Melanesian homes and tropical foliage on a picturesque drive across the island. Vibrant greens and blues of tropical foliage and aquamarine water are your constant companions along the way.

Wind your way through Easo Village, which borders the crystalline waters of Baie de Santal. Keep an eye out for Notre Dame de Lourdes -- a historic chapel with a regal iron statue of Our Lady of Lourdes looking out from its rooftop. Continue traveling along leafy, tree-lined roads as your guide, a cheerful local, happily shares interesting facts about the island.

Journey to Xepenehe, a seaside settlement with hand-carved totems near the shore, and an arching white bridge that spans jagged rocks. Here and in the next village of Komo, marvel at traditional Melanesian homes and their cheerful, blooming gardens, which thrive thanks to the tropical climate.

In Wé, the administrative seat of the island, watch for a traditional meeting hut with its thatched roof and curving, beehive-like walls, along with small restaurants, snack bars and the open-air market that operates just a few mornings a week.

Luecila Beach, just along up the shoreline, sits on the mesmerizing Baie de Chateaubriand. A picture-perfect stretch of smooth, sparkling white sand bordered by thick, tropical foliage and soaring palms, Luecila offers a pristine paradise, unspoiled by development. Enjoy a welcome drink of fresh coconut; then, savor about an hour and a half to truly kick back, soak up the sun and stroll along the silky smooth sand as the clear, turquoise water laps at the shore. Take in the endlessly blue horizon and the way the island gently curves to form this idyllic lagoon., just along up the shoreline, sits on the mesmerizing Baie de Chateaubriand.
