It’s been an exciting few weeks since Koningsdam set sail on its first cruise, and we know fans want to see more of the ship and hear more from the architects.
Architectural designer Bjørn Storbratten worked with Holland America Line on Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam, and for Koningsdam he was responsible for some of the ship’s signature rooms. Not only did Storbraaten design the two-story Lido pool deck — a first for Holland America Line — and all of the surrounding eateries like New York Pizza and Deli, Gelato and Dive-In, he also worked to take entertainment to a new level with World Stage. Storbraaten also designed the ship’s casino, aft pool area, Greenhouse Spa and Salon including the hydropool, fitness center, Tamarind, Club HAL, Crow’s Next and Retreat cabanas.
Join Storbraaten at the yard as the ship nears completion and see his excitement as he sees his designs come to life.
For eager Holland America Line fans here are more photos by renowned photographer Michel Verdure. His imagery does not disappoint, bringing Koningsdam’s vivid decor to life.

Gorgeous sea views and a peaceful ambiance make Explorations Cafe a great place to enjoy a coffee or tea.

One of the most serene places onboard, the adults-only Retreat has private cabanas for rent and loungers for guests to enjoy. And yes, a green bunny!
Stay tuned to see Koningsdam’s stateroom and suites. From the new single and family to the gorgeous Pinnacle Suite, Michel captured them all. Be sure to check out his other photos on his website: http://www.verdurephoto.com
Fans, which is your favorite Koningsdam venue so far? Tell us below!
Bij een van de foto,s stond als onderschrift: gasten willen wijn bij het eten.
Ik hoop dat de Koningsdam ook wat europese wijnen op de kaart heeft staan. en niet en niet alleen wijnen uit amerika
His pictures are amazing. Hopefully these are the pictures that will be the official ones for the HAL website? Favorite spot when I was onboard was easily a combination of Billboard Onboard and Queen’s Lounge. In the evenings the entertainment sort of “ping pongs” between the two and you can follow the great sounds all night long. Once the musicians are done for the night the Queen’s Lounge is an incredible nightclub with a stellar sound system! On the food side of things I don’t know if I enjoyed the Culinary Arts Center dinner or Sel de Mer more. They were both spectacular! Can’t wait to see some of the rooms we didn’t get a glimpse of onboard, especially the Vista, Signature and Pinnacle Suites
There are plenty of European wines onboard, don’t worry!
When will we get to see some actual photographs? These still look digital renderings–of course I could be mistaken, maybe the ship is that perfect, lol. Seriously though, I cannot wait to see some real photographs!
I have been following the development of this ship for a while, and am very excited about the launch. We will be sailing on the ship in August.
Thanks,
Liz
Liz, those are REAL photos! Yes, the ship looks that gorgeous! All of the photos on the blog taken by Michel are actual photos of the ship. Enjoy! More to come.
Wauw wat een mooi vrolijke gezellige kleuren zijn hier gebruikt. I love it…
Wow, what a wonderful ship.
Can someone please correct the Sel de Mer photo description:
From the decor to the menu, Sel de Mer is modeled after a French brassiere.
It should read… Sel de Mer is modeled after a French brasserie.
Brassiere is an undergarment!
Good catch, Diane! Thanks!
