On March 15, 2013, a healthy baby boy, Dylan Rien Honcoop, was born weighing 8 Lbs.
Dylan means “son of the waves” and that is exactly what he is. My wife Mary and I met in 2004 on board Rotterdam, while she was working as a dancer and I was an engineer. We have been sailing together on various HAL ships ever since.
In 2008 we got married and Mary made the big move from Texas to the Netherlands, the country that fits 21 times in the state of Texas! She applied at a University in Delft to study Dutch, which she can now understand, speak and write in.
In 2011, I was offered a job at the corporate office in Seattle, which I accepted and we left everything behind in the Netherlands to make the move.
Holland America Line has been a big influence on our lives, steering it in all kinds of different and exciting directions.
We are very happy and proud of our miracle and would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to everybody that send us cards, best wishes and even photos!
Rini Honcoop is Holland America Line’s superintendent, technical operations.
