Meet Noordam’s Hotel Manager Mark Pells

Hotel Manager Mark Pells

Holland America Line’s own Mark Pells was featured in the “Cape Cod Times” for his efforts in the helping the Haitian earthquake victims. Check out the article here, and continue reading below for more about Pells.

Hotel Manager Mark Pells grew up in the Hudson River Valley of New York, in a small town called Hyde Park, home of the Roosevelts and Vanderbilts. Cruising up and down the Hudson at an early age in his first runabout and summering in nearby Cape Cod set the course for his future at sea.

Pells made sure that his profession in the hospitality industry never took him too far from the sea. He worked in some of the finest coastal hotels and resorts in Boston, San Francisco and Hawaii. After working his way through school and earning a degree in culinary arts and hotel management, Pells sought the highest positions in operations in several five-star resorts, but still missed spending time near the ocean. It was then that he traded his suits for stripes and joined a cruise ship in Hawaii, sailing the islands for five years before finding his current home with Holland America Line, where he has been for more than 13 years.

As hotel manager, Pells is responsible for the overall hotel operation on Noordam, but he realizes that it is the crew members that really deserve the praise because of their relentless commitment to service and quality. One of his goals is to have our guests be as proud and fond of our crew members as he is, and for everyone to receive at least one of their outgoing smiles per day.

Pells currently lives on Cape Cod where he spends time exploring the waters of Nantucket Sound and the back roads of New England.
