Berlin S. Sarreal, demi chef de partie on Oosterdam, first joined Holland America Line in 1983 as a GPA SA on board Volendam. Soon after he was promoted to Sanitation, and for the next eight years also assisted in the kitchen. His keen interest in cooking was evident, and he soon was promoted to assistant cook. He then trained for a year as head de cuisine until he was promoted to his current position of demi chef.
Berlin was born in Cavite, Philippines, where he graduated from the Philippines Merchant Marine Academy with a BSMT – Marine Transportation. In his spare time Berlin enjoys basketball and martial arts (karate and arnis) as well as cooking and carving.
