Veendam’s visit to Costa Maya, Mexico, Dec. 19th was designated for the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association’s Holiday Gift Project. Since Mexican law prohibits the offloading of U.S.-purchased gifts in a Mexican port, organizers in Costa Maya purchased gifts for 200 children locally and FCCA reimbursed them. Volunteers from Veendam assisted with gift distribution and interacted with the children during the event.
Santa and his little helpers, volunteers from Veendam, arrived by “sleigh” — the local tourist trolley. After a warm welcome, the mayor of Costa Maya made a speech and after a performance by local dancers the children lined up to receive their gifts — one for each child.
Ship photographer Shannon Benge sent the pictures below of the day’s festivities showing Santa receiving a warm welcome by the kids and on the right Team Veendam volunteers with Santa.
