Oosterdam Marks India, Indonesia Independence Days

Caroline Sevilla, Oosterdam’s crew purser, sent us these photos taken during the back-to-back celebrations of India’s and Indonesia’s Independence Days.

On August 15, 2009, Oosterdam celebrated the 64th India’s Independence Day. The gathering started with a welcome speech from Cadet Officer Louis Belcher followed by singing of India’s national anthem. Captain Arjen van der Loo led the cutting of the cake with the help of Chief Officer Jako Kornelis Terstal and Hotel Manager Simon de Boer. Everyone was treated with delicious and authentic Indian cuisine and Indian music.


On August 16, 2009 Oosterdam’s Indonesian Independence Day’s Celebration began with a tug of war competition where the unbeatable engine department prevailed again plus other fun Indonesian games called “Masukkan pencil dalam botol” and “gigit coin.”
