Holland America Line Extends Worry-Free Promise Through September

Holland America Line is giving consumers the confidence to make travel plans through the summer with the extension of its Flexible Cancellation Plan to Sept. 30, 2022. As part of its “Worry-Free Promise,” Holland America Line also will continue to implement best practices for COVID-19 health safety including operating vaccinated cruises and requiring a medically-supervised negative COVID-19 test prior to cruising.

Under the Flexible Cancellation Plan, which was originally offered for cruises departing through the end of April, guests who make a new booking by March 31, 2022, for itineraries that depart on or before Sept. 30, can cancel for any reason and receive a Future Cruise Credit in the amount of any cancellation fees that normally would be incurred. Cancellations must be made up to 30 days before departure. Additionally, final payments for cruises through May 31, 2022, are due at 60 days instead of 75 or 90.

For additional reassurance, Holland America Line’s Cancellation Protection Program can be purchased for new cruises or Alaska Cruisetour bookings or existing bookings as long as it is purchased before the date cancellation fees begin to accrue. Offered as a Standard or Platinum plan, guests can cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before cruise departure with Standard and right up to departure under Platinum and receive refunds between 80% to 90% of eligible amounts paid. The cost varies by cruise fare and is nonrefundable.

Holland America Line will continue to operate with health and safety protocols for COVID-19 guided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization and the company’s medical team and health experts.

Those protocols include:

• Guests must have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the beginning of the cruise and bring proof of vaccination; Holland America Line is strongly encouraging all eligible guests to receive COVID-19 boosters.
• Guests must show proof of a negative viral COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) taken within two days of embarkation.
• Guests are required to wear masks in indoor areas, except when eating or drinking or in their stateroom. Holland America Line is recommending the use of higher-grade masks indoors (surgical or KN95).
• Crew members are vaccinated for COVID-19 and are receiving a booster when eligible; KN95 masks are worn by shipboard teams at all times.

Holland America Line returned to cruising in July 2021 following the industrywide pause with ships in operation in the Caribbean, Mexico and California coast, having successfully completed seasons in Alaska and the Mediterranean. The remaining ships will restart cruising in spring 2022.

    Is there any kind of shoreside support should a Canadian test positive for Covid AFTER the cruise and need to quarantine? (I am talking about when you do the pre flight testing at the pier at the end of the cruise)

    Bonjour! Thinking of taking a cruise from Montréal to Boston. I need to be tested within 48 hours of embarking in Montréal. Fine. Will I then be tested again when disembarking in Boston? If so, is it at Holland America’s expenses? Thanks!

    Hi! We test all guests free of charge on board or in the terminal who need a test to go home.

    Disembarking from Rotterdam on April 17th at Port Everglades. Need Covid test to return to Canada. I believe you do this in the terminal after leaving the ship. Our flight is at 11:10am on the 17th from FLL will we receive our results in time? Is there an option to get tested in Key West on the day before disembarking?

    We do the test in the terminal, and it’s a rapid test so you will have the results in time. It’s not been a problem. We cannot test in Key West.

    We have an Alaskan Cruise Tour booked with the land portion beginning 6/29/22 and the cruise portion beginning 7/3/22. Will Holland America be providing the required Covid testing required for the cruise portion sometime during the land tour? Thank you.

    In light of the CDC’s recent change in policy regarding the wearing of masks on cruise ships, what are Holland America’s current requirements for masking, vaccination, and COVID-19 testing for passengers? Thank you.

    Masks on board are recommended but not required indoors or outdoors. We highly recommend guests wear a mask in the World Stage and other entertainment areas, casino, spa treatment rooms, Club HAL and during other congregate events. Masks are required to be worn during the entire embarkation and debarkation process and on transportation during any Holland America Line organized shore excursions, on tenders to and from ports, and in the onboard Medical Center.

    For everyone’s safety and peace of mind, all guests must be fully vaccinated and provide a negative, medically observed COVID-19 test taken before embarkation (see FAQs children exemptions).     We are booked on the upcoming Voyage if the Vikings, and getting a bit nervous about the resurgence of Covid. Looking at options. How much would we loose if we reschedule for next year’s Voyage? We have the insurance.

    My friend and I sailed to Alaska from Vancouver in late May. The 3rd day out, he tested positive for Covid and was restricted to a stateroom for the rest of the trip, as well as quarantined in Vancouver for a week when he disembarked. I did not test positive but was required to test daily, required to wear a mask, was banned from all dining areas and was forced to eat only in my stateroom. Needless to say, our fun trip was totally ruined. I haven’t seen my friend since he was hidden away. No one from Holland expressed any kind of condolences to either of us and we both still paid full fare. Our reservations for fine dining had to be cancelled. Seems like we should at least have gotten a discount offer for a future cruise or some sort of rebate, but as I said, no one from Holland even spoke with us about it.

    If I test positive for Covid during a cruise, will I receive a pro-rated credit for the five or six days that I must be isolated in my room?

    FCC worth 100% of the per-day cruise fare for the missed days and a refundable credit to their onboard account for missed pre-paid onboard experiences and shore excursions purchased through cruise line, and for the refundable portion of taxes, fees, and port expenses for ports visited after disembarkation.
