HAL Marine Engineer Wins ‘Cadet of the Year’ Award

Graham Crawford commenced his engineering cadetship with Holland America Line in January 2009 and was recently awarded ‘Cadet of the Year’ at the Warsash Maritime Academy in London. The Marine Engineer Cadet of the Year honor is awarded annually to the Warsash Maritime Academy student who has performed to the highest standard throughout the duration of their engineering officer cadetship and whose overall attainment, including both theoretical and practical elements, is recognized by the center’s staff as being the most excellent among his or her peers. Congrats, Graham!

My first ship was the Veendam and I was mentored by Ian Wylie who was absolutely brilliant! My second ship was the Zaandam and I was mentored by Kenneth Kik who again was absolutely fantastic. In college I have had Graeme Young as my tutor and I really wish I had had the opportunity to sail with him. Finally, I consider myself extremely lucky to have joined the intake I did with so many interesting characters. – Graham Crawford
