Goodbye After 36 Years

After 36 years of loyal service with HAL, chief housekeeper Pak Soeparno is retiring. Soerparno holds the record for the longest-serving chief housekeeper from Indonesia. He has been a valuable employee for the company, having worked on almost all the ships in the HAL fleet.

When asked what is his secret to success, he replied, “It is hard work, positive thinking, responsibility and never being afraid to ask, because everybody has the potential to be your guru. It’s never been a secret.”

He is like a father for many people in the housekeeping department, always giving guidance with a smile that eases the day. A surprise farewell party was held in his honor in the dining room. It was a very sentimental and touching tribute that didn’t leave many dry eyes in the house.

Happy retirement, Pak Soeparno, and all the best to you!
