Congrats to Canine Mariner Travis!

Captain Arjen Van der Loo and Hotel Director Robert Versteeg, both big dog lovers, were delighted to present Travis, Mrs. Young’s trusted service dog, with his own 100-day Mariner medal aboard Oosterdam. Travis is a rescue from the Dallas dog shelter and after training has been assisting Mrs. Young with her balance issues. Travis did not participate in the regular Mariner’s Brunch, but did receive an extra doggy treat!

    Well done to Travis.
I have a golden Labrador He is my guide dog, and I hope to travel with Holland America very soon, I hope that I can bring him with me, he does have his pet passport.

The only thing I dislike about cruising is leaving my furry children at home. Maybe someday HAL will design ships to accomodate pets!

I have been cruising on HAL since I was 30. I am currently 53 and am so proud to be a four star mariner. It is comforting to me to know that in another 20 years, if I need it, you will do whatever you have to do do assist me on one of your ships! My sincerest appreciation, Deborah Humbert

I bet many of the crew, as well as passengers, love having a dog on board.

Great story. I happen to know Golden Retrievers are often wonderful dogs for service. We had a beautiful Golden for 13 1/2 years, a female, who was gentle to a fault and smart and terrific when both my husband and I had heart surgeries (several years apart). When I had heart surgery and a pacemaker in 1998 I had Bingo, the Golden on one side of me and Jessie, my beloved Border Collie on the other. They were both terrific and kept me sane. Both are gone now and I miss them both very much. I have also lost both my daughter to brain cancer and shortly thereafter to my husband of heart issues. It’s just me and my Bichon/Shih Tzu cross who is also the light of my life.

I guess you could say yes I do love dogs!

What a great story and I know the one guy from one of my many cruises with HAL. I too am a 4 star mariner.

What a wonderful story! I am a true animal lover and have always treated my pets as though they were my children. We are going on our 5th cruise, the second with HAL, which in my opinion is the best of the cruise lines available.

Just knew it would be a Golden Retriever! They are great as a service companion.
    Congrats to Travis!

What a nice story. My wife and I have had two goldens over the years and they make wonderful pets. I also know they’re terrific service dogs too. It’s good to see that Holland America accommodates them on board.

Thank-you for recognizing how important service dogs are to those of us who are disabled. You may never see exactly what is wrong with us, but the dogs are placed with us for our personnel safety and wellbeing and believe me -they know. Good for Holland America for being a leader in customer service for the disabled.

Well done to Travis and thank you Holland America for reaching to people with needs and their animals

I saw Travis aboard the Oosterdam. What a lovely dog! I had two Golden Retrievers as a child. They are amazing companions. I wanted to pay Travis some attention, but service dogs when working should be left alone.

Well done Holland America service dogs are their owners companion and partner and your assistance in making this holiday possibly should be encouraged by other companies

    WELL DONE HAL

We are looking every year to come on board and everytime there is something coming in between, booked and cancelled, hopefully next year we will jump on board….

You are really a excellent webmaster. The site loading speed is incredible. It sort of feels that you are doing any unique trick. Also, The contents are masterwork. you have done a wonderful task in this topic!

I know we would do a lot more cruising with HAL (we have done several) if we could bring our little one with us. Any plans in the future for that most welcomed option?

Captain van der loo is not only a dog owner and dog lover, but he is also a great Dutch pancake maker and a HUNK as well!

What a great award for Travis. We had the trip of a lifetime to Alaska on the Vaandam and I left my service dog home for the trip. It is good to know that you honor service dogs and provide for them aboard your ships. It is in keeping with the great service, great food, and great itineraries. Our best cruise ever and from now on it’s only HAL! Thanks!
