Vintage Holland America Line

Special thanks to HAL Mariner and blog contributor Fred Claessen for sharing these vintage photos with us of Rotterdam, Nieuw Amsterdam and Maasdam.

Great pictures of some great Dutch ships (all built in the Netherlands). Just one slight correction to the captions – all of these great ships were steamships (driven by steam turbines) rather than motorships (driven by diesels or electric motors powered by diesel generators, as most of the current fleet is). Therefore, it is “ss” Rotterdam (not “ms”), etc.

    Thanks, Kevin!

Took the Maasdam in ’62 from NY to Le Havre as a small boy; my most memorable trip still! We absolutely loved it.
