140 Years Young: Ryndam Sets Sail

Oct. 20, 1994: Ryndam, HAL’s third ‘S’-class ship, is christened at the port of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., before setting sail for her first Caribbean cruise. With a Dutch worldwide exploration theme, the decor of Ryndam features art and artifacts from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. At the heart of Ryndam is a three-story atrium featuring a monumental fountain created by sculptor Gilbert Lebigre in Pietrasanta, Italy.

M/S Ryndam was my first contract as youth staff and I was lucky to work with my childhood best friend Sally Bolin who was Youth Director at the time. Her sister in law Sara Bolin also worked with teens aboard. I met so many amazing crew members from all over the world. It was one of the best experiences in my life. I went on to do two more contracts with HAL then went to work on CCL for several contracts. Then I fell in love and married a Bulgarian guy who worked in the gift shops. It wasi a quaint ceremony in Key West. I always dreamed to be able to take my son on a cruise on one of the many ships I worked on, unfortunately they’ve all been sold/scrapped.
M/S Ryndam was a beautiful ship!
