HAL guest Sade Krind submitted this note and photos from Canaletto’s grand opening on Maasdam.
During Maasdam’s 14-day Southern Caribbean cruise from April 30 to May 14, the Lido manager, contractors, staff, and crew were busily preparing for the grand opening of HAL’s newest Canaletto Restaurant — moving furniture, laying carpet, cleaning and decorating.
After several trial runs with officers, dining room supervisors and front office staff, the eagerly-awaited Canaletto opened for business on May 5, much to the delight of passengers.
The restaurant was a success from the start and now passengers have another difficult choice to make regarding their dining options.
Special thanks to the Lido Manager Ozgur Turnuklu who took time out of his very busy day and kindly posed for a few pictures with his staff.

We were on this cruise and every day while work was going on, I would tease Lido Manager Ozgur ” Are we opened yet?, Are we opened yet?” And he would always say soon, and to make sure we make a reservation and he would be more than happy to seat us.
When Canaletto finally opened, we did make a reservations, and greatly enjoyed the food and the service. Later in the week, when we had no reservations, Ozgur very graciously found room for us.
That smile you see in the photos, was how we saw him every day, or night. A pleasure to talk with, and a pleasure see. He made you feel that he was truly happy to see you. He left a very positive impression on our first HAL cruise.
I WOULD APPRECIATE KNOWING THE DRESS CODE. WE ARE LEAVING MIAMI BY AIR ON MAY 4TH,NEXT SATURDAY AND BOARD THE CRUISER THE FOLLOWING DAY. WE HAVE NOTICES THAT SOME OF THE OTHER LINES ARE PURELY CASUAL…..NO TUXS OR GOWNS…. WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF TUXS ARE
REQUIRED AND ALSO THE DRESS CODE FOR CASUAL NIGHTS. SOME LINES REQUIRE A SHIRT WITH A
COLLAR AND SHORT SLEEVED SHIRTS ARE OK….NO DUNGAREES, NO JACKETS.
YOUR PROMPT REPLY WOIULD BE APPRECIATED HARRY KLEIN AND EDGAR GARCIA
