In Memoriam: Chef Charlie Trotter

We are profoundly saddened by the news of the passing of Charlie Trotter, one of America’s greatest chefs and a founding member of the Holland America Line Culinary Council. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

“Our relationship with Charlie went beyond being business colleagues,” said Stein Kruse, president and chief executive officer of Holland America Line. “He was a member of the Holland America Line family who was most generous with his creative input and advice, and his genuine warmth and camaraderie will be missed. It was indeed an honor to share his culinary masterpieces onboard our ships.”

Trotter was one of the original member chefs of Holland America Line’s Culinary Council, formed in 2010 by the line’s Master Chef and Council Chairman Rudi Sodamin. The lineup of A-List chefs included Trotter, Jonnie Boer, owner of De Librje in Zwolle, The Netherlands; David Burke, of David Burke Townhouse in New York; and Jacques Torres, owner of Jacques Torres Chocolates. A selection of Trotter’s culinary creations currently are featured on the dining room menu on all 15 ships in the fleet and have been greatly enjoyed by our guests for many years.

“Not only has Chef Charlie Trotter been an enormously valued member and contributor on our Culinary Council, he was a great friend and has been an inspiration, mentor and leader for a whole generation of American chefs,” said Rudi Sodamin, Master Chef for Holland America Line. “Charlie will be truly missed.”
