Cruise Diary: Vancouver, Canada

My wife Yvon and I are back on board a Holland America Line ship. We are sailing on the Statendam from Vancouver, Canada, to the Panama Canal. After a long flight from Europe, we were very happy to be met by a HAL employee who took us to our hotel and the next morning to our ship. We want to especially thank Eileen for helping us during our time in Vancouver.

Our first port of call was at Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC. A short ride on a shuttle bus will take you downtown where you can see the Parliament building and the Empress Hotel, two major attractions in Victoria.

The Lions Gate Bridge, a major landmark in Vancouver.

Spectators waving at us from the bridge. What a lovely view!

During a coach tour of Vancouver we visited Stanley Park where we we could see the Statendam waiting for us.

Canadian guests took their national flag and a bear with them on board. It was strange to see a bear walking around on the aft deck but we convinced ourselves that it was not a real one.

Welcome to Victoria, BC.

Cees and Yvon Kloppenburg are regular contributors to the Holland America blog. They are currently on board Statendam and will be sending in cruise diaries throughout the duration of their time on board.
