Cruise Diary: Unpacking the Memories

Dutch TV host and adventure seeker Charlotte Squarcy was recently on board for a segment of Amsterdam’s Grand World Voyage. Here is a post-cruise diary.

I may have left the Amsterdam’s World voyage in Sydney, but not my new-found friends whose journey continues. Like “Tom & Carol” who commented on my posts, I’m following the ship’s course and thinking about boarding once more to visit some old haunts.

Ah, Singapore, home of the infamous Sling. You have my personal guarantee that HAL’s bartenders are better mixologists than the home of the drink, Raffles Hotel. Would you believe that the bartender had the nerve to take a premixed concoction OUT OF THE REFRIGERATOR right in front of us and try to pass it off as the Legendary Singapore Sling?! That very day I took up drinking single malt Scotch, needing something memorable to commemorate a visit to such a fabled destination. I’m really looking forward to some of the Amsterdam’s other postings as the ship ventures into unknown waters to me.

Meanwhile, I’m sorting through some festive snapshots of guests and crew to submit for posting. It was all so wonderful that I took SO MANY digital snaps. But, honestly, a photo doesn’t due Antarctica justice and my best shots are of us all having SO MUCH fun…back soon…

PS: Although I recommend Tranquility Baths Spa around the corner from Raffles shopping mall, it’s not my ceramic bed in the thermal Suite at the Greenhouse Spa! I am SO glad that feature is on all the HAL ships! I just figured that everyone would have shopped ’til they dropped in Hong Kong what with the reported cooler weather. I always take advantage of the in-port special pricing for some pampering.

These Blogs bring back many great memories of a cruise of a lifetime. I now can begin to appreciate the appeal of a Holland America Line World Cruise or at least a Grand Voyage. All elements of a cruise (food. service, entertainment and activites) are just that much better to enjoy and add to a wealth of amazing experiences. With the longer cruises an added benifit is that it enables one to really get to know and interact other fellow passengers, crew and officers. I will contiue to read and enjoy postings by fellow cruisers, crew and officers. I salute Captain Johnathan Mercer who does such a remarkable job comanding the ms Amsterdam as he did on our ms Nieuw Amsterdam trans Atlanic cruise last year. Captain Johnathan’s Blogs are always worth reading. I feel like I am still aboard.
