Cruise Diary: Skagway – All Aboard! Bound for The Yukon!

Adventure traveler and Dutch TV personality Charlotte Van Hoorn was on board Zaandam for an Alaska cruise and will be sharing her adventure with us.

White Pass Summit Railroad followed the historic Yukon Gold Rush trail, providing historical context and plenty of scenic splendor. And who doesn’t love a choo choo train ride? Great choice for a family outing or that gang of mine who are kids at heart. HAL’s tour desk assisted our group to a railcar with reserved group seating which made it quite pleasurable to share the scenery and chat back and forth as we stepped outside for photos and shared the time together moving about the car. (Another example of personalizing your own trip.)

Filled with curiosity afterwards, I latched onto a National Park Ranger walkabout Skagway’s historical architecture and toured the museum, (picking up one of five National Park Passport stamps this journey). Weather this time of year was high 70’s that day and the port of call was one I would like to revisit. Makes me realize why Mariner Society members choose to repeat their cruises to Alaska.

Really spectacular scenery and indeed a lot of fun to share with a group of family and friends.
