Cruise Diary: Favorites of a 3-Star Mariner – Favorite Cruise Day
Dutch TV host and adventure seeker Charlotte van Hoorn is on board Noordam for a Caribbean cruise and she’ll be sending in posts during her voyage.
Favorite Cruise Day – Embarkation Day
So eager for the fun to begin. Expectations running high and the HAL feature of getting us aboard swiftly before the shipboard lunch makes Day 1 more than a waiting line. So early, in fact, that I had time to check in with Anja about my dining table assignment and Anne at front office guest relations. Luckily, both had plenty of staff to deal with so many small requests from us all … all at once! There are 117 Dutch guests aboard whom I expect to meet enjoying the many Dutch traditional touches you will notice on board. After all, the Dutch gave us the “cookie” and that’s a very good start to the trip!
Housekeeping Asst. Manager Mike is new to the ship, but not to hotel management. He and Manny, my steward, keep checking that we are satisfied with our stateroom as the cruise progresses and I, for one, really appreciate living spic and span. Definitely cleaner than a hotel room ashore and why I visit Europe by sailing through the Med now. No plane or train connections, no lines of hurry up and wait. Now here among the Carribbean islands, yet another a voyage of waking up to a new island country and reboarding to a freshly cleaned environment after bargain-hunting at the mercado, souk, medina or flea market of the day. You could have a sunburn the first day before we have left port with all this time to start relaxing…
