Cruise Diary: Favorites of a 3-Star Mariner – Beverage Events

Dutch TV host and adventure seeker Charlotte van Hoorn was on board Noordam for a Caribbean cruise and sent in posts during her voyage.

Favorites of a 3-Star Mariner: Beverage Events – Scotch tasting

There is so much more to life than water. On a cruise, the ship deals with H2O and I report what I can of the 11 special events offered in 10 days. Next time, I won’t order just a 6 pack for the cabin. Andrew the Cellar Master and Myrat Beverage Manager have made up a list of new ideas for socializing.

Truly a choice for everyone, because you can learn to enjoy the “umbrella drinks'” flavors without alcohol at the Mixology classes. The wine sampling events were offered in flights, as premium choices, unlimited or paired with chocolate. Meanwhile the beer tasters held court in the Crow’s Nest or joined a Myrat’s signature Pub Crawl night which I’ve have to stay up for next time. Heard it was a hoot!

My favorite was the Scotch tasting where I learned a few things about how to appreciate the wee dram more thoroughly. Having lived and working at Gleneagles, Scotland, Andrew was well qualified and filled with passion as he described from his own experiences and in Scottish-tinged English some of the history of the spirit, making comparisons of the very many choices available aboard. I’ve never tried to finish all the offerings at these events…a generous pour and nicely priced.
