Cruise Diary: Dubrovnik, Croatia

Janet Bell is currently cruising the Mediterranean on board Noordam. She will be updating us throughout her voyage.

Early this morning, we sat on our balconies, enjoying our breakfast and taking in the awesome approach to Dubrovnik. The colorful hills are full of flowers and we spotted a man herding his goats along the steep hillside. At the port, we found a very cute young man named Robert who offered to give us a very informative (and impassioned) tour. He took us to the top of Mount Srd, traveling along narrow, winding roads with hairpin turns. The spectacular panoramic view was worth the harrowing trip to the top. Afterward, we walked the wall of the old town, something everyone needs to experience. With all the steep steps and inclines, we managed to work off all the yummy rich food we have been eating on the ship. We spent some time shopping in the old town and bought beautiful lace tablecloths, lavender and candied orange peel. We also enjoyed lunch at an outdoor cafe where we ordered a hamburger and fries. What we got was a very large beef patty, no bun and some fries. No mustard, no ketchup but some red sauce which we guessed was ground red peppers. These pictures show us at the top of Mount Srd with our travel partners Peter (my brother-in-law) and Gaye, and my husband David and me on our balcony enjoying a break. — Janet

We very much enjoyed Dubrovnik, too, when we sailed with Holland America last year! What a charming old city!

We will be on Noordam in October – so I will be following your posts with much interest.
Just wondering how to handle Dubronik. Seem to many tour options….
