Cruise Diary: Favorites of a 3-Star Mariner – Favorite Dining Experience

Dutch TV host and adventure seeker Charlotte van Hoorn is on board Noordam for a Caribbean cruise and she’ll be sending in posts during her voyage.

Favorites of a 3-Star Mariner – Favorite Dining Experience

I thought this was a no-brainer, but then the specialty choices just kept comin’. Of course the Formal Nights are a pleasure with the guests decked out and the chairs covered with flowers in place. It’s always quite a conversation starter among new tablemates when it is so festive.

Then, sometime during the voyage, I enjoy the fine china and ambiance Matre d’ Ayhan Ozturk has created in the Pinnacle Grill. Usually the menu selection entices me to return when there are so many choices and so little time aboard to sample.

Well, now HAL has refined the fine dining concept further with the Master Chef’s Table. An intimate group in a special corner of the Pinnacle Grill which offers the pleasure of wine pairings described by Cellar Master Andrew to match the Chef’s preparations. Exquisitely presented and prepared. This is an “on par” experience with an elegant evening in Manhattan at a fraction of the price. A perfect choice for singles, too, who want a way to get to know fellow passengers easily by sharing such a special occasion.

Are we done yet? No! By now all HAL’s repeat cruisers have heard the rave about the Le Cirque menu evening. I’ve made my choice, but I’ll leave the pictures for you to judge for yourself.

And for those of you in blogland out there who don’t wish to get dressed up, I strongly suggest that you stir yourself from the Lido deck chair for the Indonesian luncheon. No other cruise line can offer such an authentic Rijsttafel buffet, served by staff so very proud of their own country’s culinary heritage.

It was such fun to share a traditional meal with a table of Dutch mothers and daughters that we kept up the party by shopping ashore!

How great Holland America keeps up their Dutch and Indonesian heritage. What a plus for passengers and staff alike! Looking forward to our next Holland American cruise to scenic Alaska!
