On Deck for the Cure Gala Aboard Ryndam

Ryndam’s Event Manager Kelly Williams shared this photo and story from the ship’s $2 million On Deck for the Cure milestone celebration.

Over 200 participants in the Ryndam’s $2 million On Deck for the Cure walked for hope, remembrance, support and in celebration of Holland America Line’s milestone in raising money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The event kicked off in the Showroom at Sea, where Captain Vincent Smit thanked all of the guests, staff and crew for their participation and donations.

With several breast cancer survivors in the lead, the participants marched down to the lower Promenade Deck to kick off the walk. After the group completed their 12 laps around the deck, everyone returned to the Showroom at Sea and were greeted with pink daisies, pink lemonade and Kir Royal champagne cocktails. Near the end of the day’s events, a request for “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor was shouted out from the crowd. The HAL Cats obliged and were joined by participants on the stage and dance floor as they belted out a closing anthem to wonderful and inspiring day.
