HAL Employees ‘Polar Bear Jump’ for a Great Cause

Thanks to Ralph Samuels, Holland America Line’s Vice President of Government & Community Relations in Alaska, for sending in this chilly post! And thanks to Anita Nelson from Princess Cruise Lines for her lovely note.

HAL employees in Alaska recently participated in the popular Polar Bear jump at Seward by plunging into Ressurection Bay. Jumpers collect pledges and the funds raised are donated to the American Cancer Society. This year, organizers of the event had to break the ice in the harbor before the jump!

A big thank you to you and Bruce – this really meant a lot to the employees – it has been something they have wanted to do for a number of years but they needed the corporate start up funds to get it rolling. They are already thinking of ways to raise even more next year.

Our driver yesterday is a cancer survivor … this particular employee is on her second battle. And one of our jumpers lost their spouse, who was in their 30s, to cancer just a couple years ago; we also had employees who are survivors who drove down that day to cheer on our team – so this event and cause touches them on a very personal level.

Thanks again,
