Captain’s Log: Panama Canal, Feb. 13

Aboard Zuiderdam, Feb. 13.

Feb. 13 we did our bit in the Panama Canal again.

For those of you that want to see us go through live take a look here:

The next time will be on Feb 23. Usually around 7 a.m. EST (that is 1 in the afternoon in Europe) we will be going into the locks.

Yesterday we got up bright and early for 5 a.m. between the breakwaters only to be told they had a delay during the night.

We finally got in the canal around 5.45 a.m. and entered the locks around 7 a.m. We were anchored on the Gatun Lake around 9 a.m.

On the Gatun Lake we disembarked about 1,100 passengers for their shore excursions.

We locked down starting around 1 in the afternoon. The same delay in the morning was still going on in the afternoon so we docked about an hour late in Cristobal where my adopted family was awaiting.

I’ll try and shoot a picture of them next time but they are a bit shy.

I was onboard this sailing and it was great!! The weather cooperated and our excursion onto Gatun Lake was an unforgetable experience. Thanks Capt for the smooth ride and the great weather was an added bonus.
