Captain’s Log: Bear Watching in Glacier Bay

Yesterday we had a nice day in Glacier Bay. Good calving on Margerie and Johns Hopkins Glaciers, but we topped of the day with some of the best bear viewing this season. We spotted this mother grizzly and her two cubs at the entrance to Johns Hopkins inlet.

We named the bear in this picture Spider Bear. She is going downhill on a 70-degree slope.

Today we had to cancel our call in Ketchikan due to high winds — over 60 knots (110 km/hour or 71.5 mph).

The bear photos were taken by the ship’s photographer.

Captain Werner Timmers is master of Zuiderdam.
