Three Ways to Celebrate #NationalWineDay on a Holland America Line Cruise

Along with an increasing interest in wine over recent years, wine-related activities have become a key aspect of many vacations — especially during a cruise experience. For many Holland America Line guests, discovering a new winery or wine while cruising the world is one of the joys of travel. And it’s not just for wine aficionados! Wine novices appreciate the ease of exploring wine on board.

In celebration of #NationalWineDay, held annually May 25, here are three ways that our guests can say cheers onboard and ashore during their next HAL cruise.

A New Wine List by James Suckling

James Suckling is developing an industry-leading wine list for Holland America Line. Holland America Line has partnered with acclaimed Wine Critic James Suckling to review and craft a new wine menu for the fleet. When the industry-leading list is complete, a large majority of the selection will have an impressive rating of 90 points or higher — based on Suckling’s own 100-point scale. Holland America Line expects to have the new list in place fleet wide by the end of 2018, in time for the launch of Nieuw Statendam.

Blend Your Own Wine During a Cruise

Wine connoisseurs will delight in making their own wine at Blend.

Along with enjoying wine during your cruise, aboard Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam guests can try their hand at blending their own wine. Created in collaboration with Washington State’s oldest winery, Chateau Ste. Michelle, BLEND is Holland America Line’s onboard wine blending venue. Here, guests will learn about the process of blending wine from the on board sommelier. By choosing from a collection of five barrels of single-vineyard red wine, guests can create a personalized blend to enjoy at dinner or in their own stateroom!

Wine-Focused EXC Tours

Enjoying wine doesn’t have to stay onboard during a Holland America Line cruise! As a result of the long-time partnership between Holland America Line and FOOD & WINE, guests can now indulge ashore with culinary-themed EXC Tours tthat explore food, wine and culture. The Mediterranean is an especially wine-rich area that offers FOOD & WINE experiences in Greece and Italy, while cruises to France, Australia and New Zealand feature EXC Tours that visit some of the most famous wineries in the world.

Say cheers and celebrate #NationalWineDay today with Holland America Line!
