Facebook & Twitter Fans Reveal 2014 Cruise Resolutions

The year is off to a great start with Holland America Line ships sailing all over the world. Amsteradm is off on its spectacular 113-day Grand World Voyage.

Guests on Nieuw Amsterdam are soaking up the sun sailing the Caribbean, ms Zaandam is cruising through South America and Volendam is navigating Asia.

As we cruise into this new year with new adventures, we asked our followers on Facebook and Twitter about their cruise resolutions. Read on to see what our guests had to say about dining, new activities and visiting new places in 2014 with Holland America Line.

Where is your resolution to cruise?

We asked where fans resolved to cruise in 2014. The response was as diverse as Holland America Line’s itineraries!

Unsurprisingly, the Caribbean was the top destination our guests resolved to explore, and Hawaii was not far behind. The thought of cruising into warm weather is especially appealing for those living in northern climates this January!

Randall Taylor-Craven: The Caribbean on the Smooth Jazz Chartered Cruise … Soon: Jan. 12th … I’d better start packing!

Gerard Everaars: Hawaii, I already booked the journey. We start 11 Feb. 2014, can’t wait!

Alaska is the top choice in cold weather destinations.

Alaska is the top choice in cold weather destinations.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, plenty of guests look forward to visiting cooler locations, Alaska and Antarctica were high on the list of resolution destinations:

Benjamin R. Schilter: I wanna do a 14-day Alaska cruise (the 7-day was AMAZING, but I want more) and maybe try one of those Triple Denalis…

James R Fulghum: Alaska from Seattle our first cruise for my wife and mine 40th anniversary.

Mamie Hendren: World voyage, Panama Canal & Alaska … all on the ms Amsterdam. That’ll take care of things from January to June. Less than a week away… 🙂

Rebecca Taylor: Alaska, in May, on the Zaandam, we feel so comfortable on that ship! Just the right size (for us).

Among the other responses were Kiel Canal and Baltic Explorer, the Panama Canal, Australia and New Zealand, Europe in the summer and South Pacific in the winter, the Greek Isles, Transatlantic from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale, Singapore and Mumbai. Our guests and our fleet sure will be cruising the world this year.

According to our (non-scientific) survey, and whether resolved or booked, here are your top cruise destinations for 2014:

1. The Caribbean
2. Alaska
3. Europe
4. The Panama Canal
5. Hawaii
6. Anywhere/Everywhere!
7. Asia
8. Canada/New England
9. Australia/New Zealand
10. Ocean-Crossing

Jo Temaat Wooderson: Anywhere as long as it is with Holland America!

Is your New Year’s Resolution to try new activities?

From the Culinary Arts Center to On Location programming, HAL offers a host of activities for every cruiser. Even the experienced cruiser can find something new to do onboard or ashore.

Shore excursions can be an excellent way to break out of your comfort zone. Imagine riding horseback through the crystal waters at Holland America Line’s private island Half Moon Cay, or off-roading in the Alaskan wilderness!

For some guests, it’s the cruise itself that is a new activity, like Marita Wallace, who will be cruising the Mediterranean in June. Others resolve to sail on each and every ship in the Holland America fleet:

Sally Wong: been on Oosterdam, Maasdam, Noordam and Zuiderdam … have a few more “Dam” ships to experience … my resolution going forward!

Pamper

Is your New Year’s Resolution to pamper yourself in our spacious and elegant accommodations?

“We pamper ourselves every time! Love those suites … now called “Neptune Suites.” – Candy Reed

One of the greatest advantages of cruising is that your cabin comes with you! Guests can make themselves at home instantly upon entering one of our comfortable staterooms, whether a Neptune Suite like Facebook fan Candy mentioned, or a Lanai Stateroom, all are designed for total comfort and relaxation. On the other hand, home doesn’t usually come with room service like HAL staterooms do, and sometimes even a bottle of bubbly awaits your arrival.

Guest who are looking for some serious pampering can head to the spa or the Lido deck to kick back and relax. Or, if you’re like Jill you may resolve to kick back and enjoy some “Breake in bed!”

Speaking of breakfast…

Most guests agree -- Pinnacle Grill is the place to dine elegantly.

Is your New Year’s Resolution to dine elegantly?

Our guests resolved to dine elegantly this year and sounded off on the great debate — which Holland America Line restaurant is the best?

As it turns out, most were resolute about joining us at the Pinnacle Grill! Several mentioned An Evening at Le Cirque as a standout.

Jill Cook: Pinnacle – wonderful for lunch and dinner. Always have the crab cakes, lobster and soufflé for dinner, the best, please never take these off the menu. Can’t wait till March on Zaandam.

Lynn Mendenhall: absolute favorite was the Pinnacle Grill on the Oosterdam, what a view and what a meal!

Tamarind was a close second to the Pinnacle Grill, and many said that they were happy to take a seat in the main dining room.

Will you join us in 2014? Let us know in the comments below, or join the conversation on Facebook or Twitter. We hope to see new and familiar faces this year, and we resolve to make 2014 spectacular for everyone!

We are scheduled to cruise with this ship to Europe in April. We would like to get in touch with other passengers if possible french speaking ones. Do you have a was on providing this service.

    Thanks

Nous aimerions connaître des francophones qui feraient partis de la croisière en Europe sur le New Amsterdam en avril 2014

Robert, if you try the Roll Call tab on Holland America Line’s Facebook page, you can connect with fellow guests on your cruise. And hopefully find some French-speaking ones, too! Bon voyage! Julie, HAB editor

We are Canadians going on the Nieuw Amsterdam, departing Barcelona on April 20/14. It would be interesting to be in touch with other English speaking Canadians , especially from Alberta; who are also sailing then.
