Preparing Nieuw Amsterdam’s Anchor

We received this post and great photos from Martel Fursdon, Nieuw Amsterdam’s 2nd officer.

Greetings from sunny Venice. Here are some photos of myself and 3rd Officer Tim Lodder last Wednesday, “helping out” the yard workers who were putting the sections of the anchor chain together and painting the length indications and joining shackles. Last Friday the chain and anchor were stowed and housed on-board the ship.

I like the way you paint red and white.
Why is it painted these colors?
I’ve never seen these colors on chains before?
