Sally Andrews, Holland America Line’s vice president of public relations, and Pieter Rijkaart, director of newbuilds, recently came on board Nieuw Amsterdam to check the progress of the ship.
Pieter Rijkaart, pictured with Andrews, with 20 years of experience of building new ships in Italy, was an excellent guide.
Pieter used as an example this new vessel being built at Fincantieri and explained to me how a ship is constructed.
Here they are in the Engine Control Room where all the technical systems are monitored and controlled.
