Nieuw Amsterdam Update: April 7

Good morning from sunny Venice. Here are a few more photos of Nieuw Amsterdam!

The anchors ... finally ready to be heaved into place.

Being lifted.

Finally home!

The ship’s load line being inspected by the Lloyd’s surveyor. These are very important marks for the ship ensuring that we do not sail too overloaded or “over our marks.”

Holland America Line’s famous teak deck under construction.

Martel Fursdon is Nieuw Amsterdam’s 2nd officer.

Enjoy following the blogs on this new ship as I did on the Eurodam, and my wife and I sailed on the Eurodam out of Quebec to Ft Lauderdale in 2008. We have sailed on several HAL ships, most recently the Volendam out of Singapore. Great ships and fantastic service. We love the Asian restaurant on the Eurodam and it will be on the Niew Amsterdam, so we are looking forward to sailing on her. There are a ton of reasons to sail on all the HAL ships, but the Tamarind and the Silk Den give these two ships some added Omph !!
