During the “Signature of Excellence” dry-dock in Palermo the entertainment on the Oosterdam will also receive an upgrade. The old shows are off-loaded and new shows are loaded and installed. We are all excited to see the new shows once the ship gets back in operation.
The Windstar Café on Deck 2 of the Oosterdam is being converted into a Pinnacle Wine Bar. The location is just across from the Pinnacle Restaurant. The Windstar Café will move to Deck 10 forward and will be included in the new Explorations Café.
The Oosterdam will receive her original portside azipod back during this dry dock. The one in the below photo is still standing on shore and it will be a big job to take the spare azipod out from underneath the Oosterdam and place the original back again.
Two of the bow thruster motors need to be taken out of the Oosterdam, inspected and repaired. They are bow thrusters 2 and 3. The work in the dry-dock in Palermo is progressing as per schedule. On the 5th of April in the early morning, preparations were made to lift the new aft section with the additional cabins onto the Oosterdam. During the day the section was lifted on the Oosterdam.
A new program to help those in need kicked off along the Embarcadero on March 6, 2009. The Port of San Diego is participating with Holland America Line’s Ship to Shelter program, a philanthropic endeavor which donates items from cruise ships to homeless shelters.
