The staff of Holland America Line’s Rotterdam sales office recently named Holland International Reisbureau Buitenlandse Zaken best travel agency of 2009. The event was held at the Las Palmas Restaurant in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Holland America Line President and CEO Stein Kruse attended the event and presented the evening’s top award to Joke Nuys.
This week the Zuiderdam had a special guest on board. Beertje van Beers, who used to be a well-known model and TV presenter in Holland, was sailing on board from Acapulco, Mexico to Santa Marta, Columbia, to write a story for the Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf.”
We just received these beautiful renderings of Nieuw Amsterdam, Holland America Line’s newest ship that currently is under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. Nieuw Amsterdam is scheduled to be named July 4, 2010.
Daniele Marchesan, Fincantieri’s corporate head of exhibitions and events, sent us these updated photos of Nieuw Amsterdam. Construction on the ship is progressing quickly.

Nieuw Amsterdam retractable Lido Dome sections have arrived at the shipyard. As you can see, the dome sections arrived at the yard untreated and are painted once inside the shipyard. Stan Kuppens has been named Nieuw Amsterdam’s hotel manager. Kuppens was the hotel manager that launched Eurodam and he’s also been an active contributor to the blog.
