140 Years Young: HAL Breaks Ground on Denali Lodge

June 1, 2005: Holland America Line and Westmark Hotels, a subsidiary of HAL, break ground in Denali, Alaska, for a new lodge near Alaska’s Denali National Park. The 135-room lodge will service HAL’s CruiseTours, Gray Line of Alaska and independent guests. (The three-story property opened in May 2006.)

Monday, May 14, the first guests arrived into Denali from Anchorage. I loved seeing the engine followed by two of our train cars only. The smallest train I have ever seen! Looked like our own private train move.
