Zaandam Crosses the Line

Thanks to Kelly Williams, Zaandam’s event manager, for this fun post.

The Zaandam’s repositioning cruise to the Northwest saw the ship repeat Saturday, April 28 as the ship crossed the International Date Line in the cold, blustery North Pacific from Eastern Russia to Alaska. Guests turned out in force to welcome King Ægir (Norse God of the Sea), his wife Ran and his nine Northern Daughters (all played by the Cast). The ceremony was officiated by Loki, Norse God of Mischief, played by Cruise Director Michael Headla. At the end of the ceremony, those guests willing to make the sacrifice to assure the Zaandam safe passage took the plunge into the near freezing pool, followed also by Captain Smit and Loki. Everyone had a great day as the entire ship was initiated into the Royal Order of the Sacred Dragon and received special commemorative certificates.

Zaandam staff officers, including Captain Smit, right, await King Neptune and his Northern Daughters.
