Tying the Knot Holland America Style

Special thanks to HAL’s on-board Sales Coordinator Sara Morrison for sending us this lovely post about Matt and Megan, future cruise consultants on board Ryndam.

They met, they fell in love, and they got married at a little chapel…Holland America style. Matt and Megan are the future cruise consultants currently working onboard the ms Ryndam until February 5th. Matt hails from Bellingham, WA, and Megan is from Ontario, Canada. They met onboard the Ryndam two years ago when Matt was working as a Cruise Director and Megan was a Port Shopping Ambassador.

Matt introduced himself to Megan on her first day as she was walking up the gangway. He offered to give Megan a tour of the ship since it was her first contract on the Ryndam. He did not offer, however, to assist her up the gangway with the four large suitcases she was holding. She made sure to point that out to me. : )

A few weeks of persistence paid off for Matt when Megan eventually agreed to join him for lunch in the Lido. Friendship quickly blossomed into love and soon they were inseparable. After a year and a half of dating he proposed at ‘Virgin Gorda and the Baths’ in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

Newlyweds Matt and Megan.

To bookend their “beach proposal” Matt and Megan were married at the chapel on Holland America Line’s very own private island, Half Moon Cay. When I asked Megan why there she said “… like fate, we realized we were stopping at Half Moon Cay on October 15, 2010, during Matt’s final week of his contract as cruise director on the Zuiderdam. Both of us expressed our desire to have a beach wedding, and of all the places in the world we’ve seen, both of us just adore Half Moon Cay.”

It must have been such a treat for the guest’s who spent the day lounging in the sun on the white sands of Half Moon Cay to also join in celebrating the wedding day of their Cruise Director and his beautiful bride. Matt and Megan opened the chapel doors after the ceremony to discover a few hundred guests waiting outside to take pictures and congratulate them. They said it felt like one big family celebration!
A small reception was held in their honor in the Grand Cabana on Half Moon Cay. They capped the night off with a “honeymoon dinner” in the Pinnacle Grill.

Matt and Megan have recently joined the onboard sales team as future cruise consultants. They are excited to be able to sail the world together while helping our valued mariners book their next cruise while onboard. Their extensive knowledge of all our cruises and their genuine love of all things Holland America Line is obvious the minute you sit down to talk with them. They join the ms Westerdam in April so if you happen to be onboard that ‘dam ship’ make sure you stop by and meet the lovebirds.
