Prinsendam’s Very Own Rio de Janeiro Carnival

Practically everyone has heard of Brazil’s Carnival. But did you know that the holiday, celebrated 40 days before Easter, marks the start of Lent, during which Brazilian Roman Catholics, who constitute the majority in Brazil, are to abstain from bodily pleasures? Carnival was considered as a farewell to the pleasures of the flesh. Prinsendam had it’s own “Carnival to Rio” the night before docking in Rio de Janeiro, the city where Carnival found it’s roots in the 1830’s. The dining room was decorated in the spirit of the evening and the Explorations Team and guests celebrated in true Carnival style in the Ocean Bar. Here are a couple of photos for your enjoyment.
