Nieuw Amsterdam’s Inaugural Command Center

Planning and executing inaugural festivities takes a team effort. For months, under the direction of Holland America Line’s Vice President of Public Relations Sally Andrews, an interdepartmental, international group has been busy developing, planning and coordinating the events.

“The overall planning began well over a year ago when we established the ‘where and the when’ of the event,” said Andrews.

Over the past year a team has been meeting regularly to refine the plans. Among the key milestones of the planning was announcing the ship’s godmother, Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands.

In addition to a wide array of office supplies, the inaugural command center is well stocked with refreshments, pain relievers, eye drops, chocolate and more.

“Launching a new ship is an important celebration for our employees, guests, travel sellers and more,” said Andrews. “After so many months of planning, it is a thrill to embark and watch the events unfold. The officers and crew work so seamlessly to deliver our Signature of Excellence at each and every event.”

Once onboard, an inaugural team creates a command center that is staffed round the clock to make sure that everything goes off perfectly and that updates from the ship are distributed around the world for blog readers, Facebook followers, employees, past guests and more.

    Thanks for all your hard work! This is my “inaugural” trip to Europe, my “inaugural” cruise and I can hardly believe I lucked into the inaugural voyage of the Ms. Nieuw Amsterdam!
